Roy Orbison (born April 23, 1936, in Vernon, Texas, died of a heart attack December 6, 1988, in Hendersonville, Tennessee.)

Between 1960 and 1965, Orbison had 15 Top 40 hits. In 1987, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1989, he was posthumously inducted into the National Academy of Popular Music's Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2004, Orbison ranked #37 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

"Blue Bayou" was actually a B-side of the big hit "Mean Woman Blues", though it reached the Top 30 under its own steam, and was the bigger hit in the UK, reaching #3.

Chart position: #29 (US), #3 (UK).

Written by: Roy Orbison and Joe Melson.

Orbison and Melson also wrote such songs as "Uptown", "Only The Lonely (Know The Way I Feel)", "Blue Angel", "I'm Hurtin'", "Running Scared", and "Crying".



Also by: Linda Ronstadt (born July 15, 1946 in Tuscon, Arizona) in 1977, when she made it one of the many oldies she revived for hits of her own. It reached #3 (US), #2 (US Country), #3 (US Adult Contemporary), and #35 (UK).

Linda Ronstadt has sold in total over 75 million records worldwide.
