About Us

For those of you who wonder why this web site exists, we'll explain...

"It takes a long time to become young."

- Pablo Picasso

The greatest of popular songs hold an immense deal of power! You might be saying to yourself, "Sure, whatever you say..." But...! Hold on and hear me out.

Songs can make us sing and dance. They can make us laugh and cry. They can wake us up in the morning and relax us at the end of a long day.

Songs can pick us up when we're feeling hopeless and low and can inspire us with a sense of positivity and with dreams of new possibilities.

We identify with the words and emotions of our favorite oldies music, therefore revealing to ourselves some of our deepest thoughts and beliefs.

In other words...thinking about these old records that we love...songs not only speak to us, songs speak for us!

"Nostalgia isn't what it used to be."
- Peter De Vries

The songs I feature here on Rock The Jukebox are far from just background music. They are ultimately a part of our lives that is irreplaceable.

Every great song expresses something universally experienced.

Some hit hard with the realities of life:
  • "In The Ghetto" (Elvis Presley)
  • "Patches" (Clarence Carter)
  • "Man In The Mirror" (Michael Jackson)

Some are songs of love straight from the heart:

Some are tear-jerking ballads that mourn lost love:
  • "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" (Hank Williams, Sr.)
  • "Hurts So Bad" (Little Anthony and the Imperials)
  • "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" (Bee Gees)

Some get us moving and grooving:
  • "Rock Around The Clock" (Bill Haley and the Comets)
  • "Dancing In The Street" (Martha and the Vandellas)
  • "I Will Survive" (Gloria Gaynor)

Some are goofy, fun and lighthearted:

Some have an uplifting and inspiring message:

Each of those songs became hits and have endured because the music and the lyrics reflect a universal emotion. They all strike a common chord with all of us!

"The idea makes the song."

- Dorothy Fields

Now I'll tell you a little bit about myself and why the oldies mean so much to me. You may think I'd have to be in my fifties or sixties to have a website like this. But I'm actually only in my mid-twenties.

I understand if you find that hard to believe. It just so happened that I grew up listening to oldies radio when I was a kid. Music was and still is an important part of my life! This website is the culmination of all the positive effects that kind of music has had on me.

Thanks for reading this. Feel free to write and add your own thoughts and memories as well. Surely I'm not the only one...?

  1. Very nice Blog site honoring the Oldies! It's great to see someone in their mid twenties that enjoys the Oldies as much as I do even though I am MUCH older ;)

  2. I have to agree with Oldieslist.com.

I also have to agree with everything you mentioned regarding music.

The saying "No man is an island un-to himself", is essentially the same for music!

There is no way that life could REALLY exist without it.
